Winslow Ave. Condo Project
Winslow Ave. Kitchen Remodel (Mequon, WI)
Overview: The condo was original dated finishes, very closed in and the owner really wanted a wide open feeling as much as possible. The back hallway had a doorway from the kitchen, a door to the garage, doors to the washer dryer and doors to the closet/pantry. It was tight and cumbersome trying to function back there. having consistent flooring throughout would also aid in the updated spacious feeling.
Challenge: Our challenge was we required engineering to verify that we could eliminate all but a corner post to open up the space. Updating the fireplace and Living room built ins while trying to maintain the budget required creative solutions and a skilled tile setter.
Opportunity: Our opportunity was to not only please our client with her desired natural maple, flat panel more Scandinavian design aesthetic, but to ultimately aid in the sale of the unit when she switched gears buying a home in Florida instead. Her investment to update proved to be a wise move and the new buyer really loved the open concept we created.
Solution: Our solution was to demo the walls surrounding the kitchen, use the former kitchen broom closet to now incorporate the microwave and other kitchen storage, to add pantry cabinets with wide roll out shelves and eliminate the former bulky doors, to eliminate the doors at the washer and dryer and widen that opening to create a landing area and flood the back hallway now with light. The broom closet was now added to the back hallway behind the door to the garage. LVP vinyl plank flooring throughout really opened up the space in a unified way. Additional cabinetry was added to the dining area as well to really resolve the need for additional furniture. The living room built ins were professionally painted and the fireplace was tiled and painted in light neutral tones.
Timeline: Planning was swift and done within 2 weeks before she left for the winter. The execution was 10-12 weeks .
