Greystone Ct. Project

Cedar Point - Greystone Ct. Living Room Refresh

Overview: A former client called requesting assistance with freshening up her living room. They were hoping to just update furniture and window treatment; but noted they did not want to replace the mantle or built-ins. Lighting also needed attention, the room always felt dark.

Challenge: Our challenge was the built-ins were designed to house the big old tv that was 27” deep, the furniture placement was difficult with so many doorways.

Opportunity: Our opportunity was to update the space to reflect the clients love of cheerful colors, change the television position and allow the growing family to all feel comfortable.

Solution: Our solution was to have a skilled finish carpenter cut down the existing cabinetry on the left side, design a new furniture arrangement that incorporated a much larger television that can now be seen easily from the kitchen, dinette, or anywhere in the living room. The carpet was removed and hardwood now continued into this space which helped to visually expand the flow. I designed custom panels to frame the large window but kept the blinds. A shallow sofa table was used below the television and modified to hold the cable box. One of the existing accent tables was also modified rather than replaced to suit the arm height of this new sectional better. The clients ottoman was re-upholstered. Finally, we added vinyl “grass cloth” wallpaper, allowing the texture and color to add warmth, style and yet retain a more casual family friendly space.

Timeline: It took a few weeks to design several options. Once we settled on the design concept , selections came next , then providing estimates, scheduling the trades. The whole process took about 4 months.
